Ahead of you lies an exciting and impressive journey through the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, distinguished by their diverse wildlife, picturesque beaches, and lush rainforests.

You will land in Chennai, where your Insight Indien tour guide will give you a warm welcome. Entry formalities may take a little time, but this will immediately set you in the right pace for your journey. Immediately after arrival, we will leave the metropolis of Chennai and head towards Mahabalipuram on the Coromandel Coast. This small coastal town is the ideal place to start your trip in a relaxed manner—a place where the sea and temple art meet. After a drive of about 1.5 hours, we will reach our accommodation, where you can rest in your magnificent Hotel and recover from your journey. 

2 Nights in Mahabalipuram

Today after breakfast you will first explore Mahabalipuram and later enroute to Kanchipuram. 

First visit Shore Temple This is one of the most iconic landmarks of Mahabalipuram. Built during the 7th century, the Shore Temple is a beautiful example of Dravidian architecture and is located by the sea.

Later visit Pancha Rathas (Five Rathas) This complex consists of five monolithic structures, each carved from a single piece of stone. These temples are dedicated to the Pandava brothers and their mother, Kunti, from the Mahabharata.

Also visit Arjuna’s Penance (Descent of the Ganges) This massive bas-relief sculpture is one of the largest rock carvings in the world, measuring about 29 feet in height and 43 feet in width. Mahabalipuram has several cave temples carved into rocks during the Pallava dynasty. 

And Krishna’s Butterball One of the most famous landmarks in Mahabalipuram, this is a massive boulder that seems to precariously balance on a small rock at the base.

And from there we will follow the half day itinerary to Kanchipuram, there you will visit the holy city of Kanchipuram, one of the oldest cities in South India. Known as the "City of 1,000 Temples," it remains an impressive destination today, boasting around 200 preserved temples dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries, and is revered as a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site.

It is considered a center for the worship of the gods Shiva and Vishnu. The number of temples here is vast, but we will focus on the two most beautiful ones: the magnificent complexes of Ekambareswara and Kailashnath.

In addition to its numerous intricately designed temples, Kanchipuram is also renowned for its silk production. At a silk weaving workshop, you will gain insight into this traditional craft. Should any language barriers arise, your experienced tour guide will be more than happy to assist you at any time. After the tour of Mahabalipuram, transfer to the hotel for check-in. French Town Exploration Rickshaw ride • Sri Aurobindo Ashram Meditation Center

After breakfast, you will continue your journey toward Puducherry. After check-in you will explore the French town and you will gain your spiritual impressions during your visit to the renowned Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Founded in 1926, the Ashram was established to harmonize science and yoga. You will gain insight into the strong sense of community among the Ashram’s members and have the opportunity to learn about the philosophy and history of this unique place.

Afterwards experience the traditional mode of transportation in south India, the Rickshaw Ride, for the tourists to get a typical experience of enjoying the Tamil and French quarters, heritage hotels, shops, tourist places and streetscapes of East and West boulevard of Pondicherry.

We then take a stroll through the Old Town, and Beach admiring its magnificent colonial buildings, and wander through the colorful market— it is a fascinating juxtaposition where French elegance meets Indian bustle! For dinner, you are welcome to dine at the hotel or venture out to try one of the nearby restaurants.

Auroville – The City of Dawn • French Quarter and Beach Promenade • Cooking class with Fisher Family 

Today, we look forward to exploring the coastal town of Puducherry. 

Our first stop is Auroville, an international community founded in 1968. The heart of Auroville is the Matrimandir, a golden dome that serves as a place of meditation. During our visit, we take ample time to explore the architecture and ideals of this unique city, which aims to create a universal society transcending politics and religion. After coming back from French Town we will have the cooking experience with Fisher’s Family and enjoy at Beach while cooking Demonstration and return back to your hotel.

In the evening we continue our journey to the coastal city of Puducherry again. We quickly realize that this place does not quite fit our preconceived notions of an Indian city; instead, Puducherry greets us with a distinctly French flair, harking back to the era when it served as the capital of French India, will have the dinner in French city. Overnight stay at a hotel in Puducherry.

Chidambaram • Gangaikonda Cholapuram • Kumbakonam 

The World of the Chola Kings

Our journey continues southward. We make our first stop in the town of Chidambaram. Here, we visit the Nataraja Temple—the site where the Hindu god Shiva is said to have performed his cosmic dance. We slowly approach the temple's sacred inner sanctum. At the third enclosure wall, we remove our shoes, and once inside the innermost precincts, we set aside our cameras; however, to actually enter the Nataraja shrine itself, one would have to be a priest! After it you drive to Gangaikonda 

Cholapuram. Here each stone tells a story, from the towering vimaana to the dwarabalakas and the sanctum’s Shivalinga. It is a place to appreciate history, architecture, and faith all at once. You can imagine the king standing proudly, overseeing his city and temple.

At our next stop in Kumbakonam, we once again delve into the mysteries of the Hindu cosmos. Here, too, it is Shiva to whom the city's most important temple is dedicated. We devote ample time to exploring the temple complex before continuing on to Tanjore, a historically significant center of Chola culture. The Chola dynasty was one of the longest-ruling dynasties in South India, renowned for its maritime conquests as well as its patronage of arts and architecture. Airavatesvara Temple is also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The art work that adorns the temple is extremely detailed, intricate and beautiful. It’s sheer poetry in stone. Built in the Dravidian architectural style, the main stone work of the building resembles a chariot. The entire temple complex is filled with rich carvings and inscriptions that narrate stories from ancient Indian Puranas. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is named after ‘Airavat’, the majestic white elephant of Lord Indra.

We arrive at our accommodation in the late afternoon, giving you some well-deserved time to yourself after a day filled with culture and deities.

Rock Fort Trichy • Brihadishvara Temple • Srirangam Temple 

Today we will drive to Trichy and there we will explore monuments dating back to the era of the Chola Dynasty. During its heyday, the dynasty's sphere of influence extended far beyond the Indian subcontinent, spanning vast regions of Southeast Asia. Get ready to be captivated by the mystical tales surrounding these kings—your tour guide has plenty of stories to share! In the morning, we will explore the sprawling complex of the Brihadishvara Temple and our journey continues to Trichy—officially known as Tiruchirappalli. From the mighty Rock Fort, built atop an 83-meter-high rock and accessible via 420 steps, we enjoy magnificent views spanning the Old Town, the Kaveri River, and extending all the way to the towers of the Srirangam temple complex. Naturally, we want to take a closer look at the latter as well. So, we drive to the temple city—located just a few kilometers away—to explore the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. This temple is considered the largest Vishnu shrine in the state of Tamil Nadu and serves as a major pilgrimage destination.

Evening Ceremony at Meenakshi Temple 

Today we will leave Tanjore to one of the oldest living city Madurai.

Madurai isn’t just old—it’s continuously alive for over 2,500 years. Centered around the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple, the city still follows rhythms set centuries ago, with markets, rituals, and streets buzzing almost 24/7.

Now we finally arrive in the bustling city of Madurai, which boasts a history spanning over two thousand years. and then return to our Hotel and get ready for the evening Ceremony at Meenakshi Temple then will end our day at Roof Top Restaurant.

Today we will start our day with spirituality heading out to Sri Meenakshi Temple Courtyard. This architectural masterpiece is a finest example of Dravidian style of architecture. 

Madurai is India in its purest form so embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Madurai with our Rickshaw Ride Tour, a truly unique and immersive experience. So the tour in rickshaw gets you a thrill out of riding into the streets of Madurai, the magical journey makes you as an astute traveller to unravel the open mysteries of this ancient city, a lively tangle of activity in its winding alleys, women clad in colorful garments, bustling markets, and a cacophony of voices coming from every direction. Numerous graceful temple structures define the city's skyline; however, for our sightseeing tour, we will focus on arguably the most beautiful and colorful of them all: You could explore the various activities of Madurai as you gazing and staring at the streets and of Temple, palace St.Mary’s Church, Gandhi Museum, Banana, Vegetables, Bamboo Markets Places and learning of every nook, cranny and corner of lane, visiting the workshop where locals make metal pots on furnace, spinning yarns and sewing towels etc .

After the Rickshaw Ride we will directly head to Thirumalai Nayak, it is a masterpiece combining Dravidian and foreign architectural styles with elan. For the history lovers and those with a taste for the rich culture, this place leaves them in awe. It is believed that the king roped in an Italian architect to design the palace. Beautiful paintings and sculptures adorn the interior of the palace.The paintings on the roof have a special appeal. Majestic pillars, the massive central courtyard and dancing hall are sure to leave you spell bound.

Pothamedu View Point • Ayurveda Massage

Today, we head for the countryside: we continue westward into the Tea Plant Hills. 

Munnar, a serene hill station, renowned for its misty valleys, sprawling tea plantations and vibrant biodiversity, making it a haven for nature and tranquility seekers. This hill station is a heavenly beauty situated at an altitude of about 1600 meters from the sea level and was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. The colonial Bungalows in the hillocks boasts of the glorious past of this place.

The route winds through small villages, past rice paddies, sugarcane fields, and spice crops—and over winding mountain roads offering magnificent views. The real magic starts after Theni, when you begin climbing into the Western Ghats on the way you will encounter Banana, Coconut farms, Sharp curves, hairpin bends, mountain views and roadside waterfalls, and suddenly the landscape turns into endless tea plantations and if the weather is in your Favour then clouds will cross your the road. 

Check in your Hotel, take some rest and later get ready for a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage therapy session — a perfect way to relax, release travel fatigue, restore energy, and refresh both mind and body before continuing the journey ahead. Feeling renewed, recharged, and ready for the next stretch of the tour andin the evening we will witness the sunset from Pothamedu View Point. After Breakfast we will start our adventure day with National Park, This national park was once the hunting place of the British. Today this park protects wild animals at its best andsupports over 100 bird species, 26 mammals, and more than 100 butterflies. This national park is situated at an elevation of 7000 feet above the sea level and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of India’s best-managed ecotourism destinations and later we will discover the Charm of Munnar Tea Gardens and a picturesque tea museum is surrounded by tea gardens and mountains. You can enjoy the aroma of freshly ground tea and watch how tea is processed. Learn more about India’s tea plantation industry. You can also taste different types of tea, including some of the best tea available in India. A very fascinating history of the Tea Plantation in Munnar is that a German planter Baron Von Rosenberg and his son founded the Lockhart Tea Estate which is Munnar’s oldest tea plantation.

After the Tea Plant visit we will head to a stunning cascade surrounded by tea plantations and forests, offering scenic beauty, trekking, rock climbing, and serene picnic spots.

Nyayamakad Waterfalls lies amid the rolling slopes of the Kannan Devan Hills, characterized by interspersed tea gardens and shola forests. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 meters, creating a breathtaking spectacle, misty spray and a cool microclimate. 

This picturesque location is surrounded by lush green tea plantations and dense forests, making it a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike.

By early evening, we are back at our accommodation.

Cochin Fort • Kathakali Dance Performance

That drive from Munnarto Kochi is one of the most beautiful transitions in Kerala—you, I would say it’s itself a destination. literally go from cool misty mountains to tropical coastal plains in a few hours. If you do it right, it won’t feel like a transfer day, but a full sightseeing experience: Lush green Meadows, Multi-step waterfall right next to the road, very photogenic, especially after rains, slightly more hidden, surrounded by dense greenery and after Neriamangalam: we will see Rubber, pineapple, and spice plantations replace tea garden. 

In the afternoon, we finally arrive in the historic Cochin Port, where colonial history meets coastal charm. After checking into our accommodation, you will have some free time to yourself. In the evening we will first go toFort Kochi, it is a historic coastal quarter in the city of Kochi, Kerala, India. Located on the southwestern tip of the Indian peninsula, it preserves a layered colonial heritage shaped by Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences. Today, it is known for its European-era architecture, iconic fishing nets, vibrant art scene, and relaxed seaside charm.

And attend a performance of the world famous Kathakali dance together. Here, ancient stories are brought vividly to life through expressive movements, colorful costumes, and vibrant masks. Afterward, we will enjoy a dinner together featuring South Indian delicacies.

Morning after breakfast proceed for a city tour covering the Chinese Fishing Nets, The Chinese fishing nets (Cheena Vala) in Fort Kochi are iconic shore-operated lift nets, introduced by Chinese explorers in the 14th century, and remain a major tourist attraction in Kerala and following Dhobi Ghat : Dhobi Ghat is a typical laundry style in India.The launderers of the Dhobi Khana in Fort Kochi use the traditional method of hanging clothes on ropes to dry the washed clothes. The drying area is a large open space with ropes and clips to prevent the clothes from flying away. During the monsoon season, the community uses electric dryers to dry the clothes later visit St. Francis Church, Saint Francis Church, in Fort Kochi, Kochi, originally built in 1503, is one of the oldest European churches in India and has historical significance as a witness to the European colonial ambitions in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were relocated to Lisbon and is now interred at Jerónimos Monastery.

Santa Cruz Basilica is a historic Roman Catholic church located in Fort Kochi, Kerala, India. It is one of the oldest and most prominent churches in Kerala and holds significant religious and architectural importance. The Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Fort Kochi is one of the eight Basilicas in India. This heritage edifice of Kerala is also one of the finest and imposing churches in India. Located close to the renowned St. Francis Church, this basilica serves as the cathedral church of the Diocese of Cochin, the second oldest Diocese of India. The Santa Cruz Basilica is not only a symbol of faith and devotion but also a testament to the rich cultural heritage and architectural legacy of Kochi. 

It continues to be a cherished landmark and spiritual sanctuary for believers and visitors alike., Jewish Synagogue and Jew Town, and the Dutch Palace (Mattancherry Palace).

After disembarking from your houseboat, you will travel together to Varkala, A coastal retreat in Kerala, this beach is famed for its red laterite cliffs, adventure sports, and the Papanasam waters, believed to absolve sins near the historic Janardhana Swamy Temple.

The Varkala Beach is also known as the Papanasam beach.It is one of the main beaches at Varkala and famous for its religious significance. It is believed that when you pray at the temple and take a dip in the waters, your body will be free of impurities and your soul will be absolved of sins. Hence, the name 'Papanasam', which translates to 'destruction of sins'.

In Evening Walk along the iconic Varkala Cliff, explore local markets for handicrafts, indulge in authentic Kerala seafood, small shops and many restaurants. It’s the most happening place in the city.

Jatayu Earth’s Center (Cable Car Ride) • Ponnumthuruthu Island (Boat Ride)

Today after breakfast we will visit the world’s largest Bird Sculpture Jatayu Earth’s Center!It is named after Jatayu, the noble bird from the Indian epic Ramayana, who is believed to have valiantly attempted to rescue Sita from Ravana. According to legend, Jatayu was gravely wounded during the battle and fell to the rocks of Chadayamangalam, making this location deeply significant in Indian mythology.The centerpiece of the park is the world's largest bird sculpture, designed by sculptor Rajiv Anchal. Measuring 200 feet in length, 150 feet in width, and 70 feet in height, the colossal structure stands as a tribute to Jatayu's bravery and sacrifice. You will get a Cable car to go there and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. After visiting we will leave for our next A charming Island Ponnumthuruthu also known as the Golden Island.

The only way to reach Ponnumthuruthu Island is by a boat ride across the Anjengo Lake. The boat journey itself is a delightful experience, offering panoramic views of the backwaters, mangroves, and the distant shoreline.

This enchanting island, nestled in the backwaters of the Anjengo Lake, offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing visitors with a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil waters. Ponnumthuruthu Island is renowned for its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and the historic Shiva-Parvati Temple, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers, bird watchers, and spiritual seekers. And in late afternoon we will return back to our hotel.

The beautiful beaches of Kovalam are calling! After a drive of about four to five hours, we reach our beach hotel. Now the relaxing part of your journey begins. Relax by the swimming pool or take a stroll along the beach.
