Day 01: Arrive Colombo

On arrival you will be warmly welcomed by the representatives of Insight Indien and transferred to the hotel.

Afternoon enjoy a city tour in Colombo. Colombo is the business and commercial center and the new capital is Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte, only a few miles away. Colombo was only a small seaport, which came into prominence in the 16th Century with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1505 and the development of it as a major harbor took place during the British period. Colombo became the capital of Sri Lanka in 1815 after the Kandyan Kingdom was ceded to the British. The remains of the buildings during the period of Portuguese, Dutch and British rule are found in every area of the city. None of the Portuguese & Dutch fortifications are found today but some of their buildings and churches could be seen in the Fort & Pettah areas. Visit Colombo Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street - the Goldsmith’s quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area where there is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings and visit Wolvendaal Church as it is the most famous Dutch colonial church in Colombo and one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka and spend the evening at Galle Face Green. Day 02: Colombo - Eluwankulama

Negombo Lagoon • Munneswaram Temple

Morning after a hearty breakfast you’ll head straight for Eluwankulama—located about a three-and-a-half-hour drive north of Colombo, on the edge of Wilpattu National Park. En route, you will take a short tea break to settle into the tropical surroundings at a leisurely pace and first take a Quick tea or coconut break at Negombo Lagoon. Negombo Lagoon is a large estuarine lagoon located on the west coast of Sri Lanka near the city of Negombo in the Gampaha District. Covering more than 30 square kilometers, it connects to the Indian Ocean through a narrow channel and is fed by rivers such as the Dandugam Oya and the Dutch Canal. The lagoon is renowned for its mangrove ecosystems, rich birdlife, and fishing communities that sustain the local economy and our next stop will be One of Sri Lanka's most important Munneswaram Temple Hindu temples. It’s believed that Lord Rama worshipped Shiva here after defeating Ravana. After that, move towards our destination and relax at your hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 03: Eluwankulama

Safari in Wilpattu National Park • Leisure Time at Nature

Today you will start the day very early, driving to Wilpattu National Park before breakfast—which we take along with you. Wilpattu is renowned for its wild, unspoiled landscape and high density of leopards. The park is defined by its distinctive lakes, known as "Willus." During the full-day safari, we have the chance to spot leopards, elephants, and—with a bit of luck—sloth bears, spotted deer, water buffalo, wild boars, crocodiles, eagles, peacocks, and kingfishers. Our guide explains the unique features of the vegetation, animal behavior, and the rangers' conservation efforts. The tranquil, pristine landscape provides the perfect setting for our lunch break, for which you have a picnic packed. Day 04: Eluwankulama – Sigiriya – Habarana

Aukana Buddha Statue • Sigiriya Rock Fortress

After a leisurely breakfast, you will set off. First you will stop at The Aukana Buddha Statue. It is a monumental standing Buddha sculpture carved from a single granite rock face in north-central Sri Lanka’s Anuradhapura District. Dating to the 5th century CE, it is considered one of the finest examples of ancient Sinhalese stone sculpture and a symbol of Buddhist artistic achievement on the island. On the agenda is one of the country's greatest highlights: the famous Sigiriya Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a masterpiece of ancient engineering. Your guide shares the fascinating story of King Kashyapa, who commissioned the construction of this rock fortress in the 5th century. We arrive in Sigiriya in the early afternoon. On the way to the summit (duration: approx. 1 hour; moderate difficulty), we discover the world-famous "Cloud Maiden" frescoes, the mysterious Mirror Wall, and the impressive Lion Paws—once the gateway to the royal rock fortress. At the top, we are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the pristine landscape, jungle, lakes, and ancient gardens. The ruins of the royal palace speak of a glorious past filled with art, culture, and innovation. After the descent, we take the approximately 30-minute drive to Habarana, an idyllic spot situated by a lake. Day 05: Habarana – Polonnaruwa – Habarana

You conclude the experience by enjoying a freshly prepared, homemade lunch—a true highlight and an unforgettable glimpse into Sri Lankan cuisine. In the late afternoon, you will delve into the fascinating world of Sri Lanka’s ancient kings and explore the Ancient city of Polonnaruwa on foot—one of the country’s most impressive ancient cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Polonnaruwa is a highlight of any cultural tour: vast, majestic, and set amidst a peaceful landscape of lakes, ruins, and tropical greenery. Day 06: Habarana – Girithale – Minneriya National Park – Habarana

We spend the morning enjoying an authentic experience: a relaxed bicycle tour (approx. 2 hours, easy to moderate difficulty) through picturesque rice paddies, along sparkling canals, and past small, traditional villages. As we cycle through the lush green landscape—accompanied by the scents of nature and the sound of birdsong—we are treated to a succession of stunning views. Along the way, we encounter locals going about their daily lives: farmers in the fields, children playing, and villagers greeting us with smiles. These personal moments turn the tour into a heartwarming, genuine glimpse of rural life in Sri Lanka. The bike ride is perfect for anyone who appreciates nature, culture, and tranquility. It is an unforgettable tour filled with color, human connection, and the authentic joy of Sri Lankan life. After the ride, we enjoy a short break at the hotel—an ideal time to cool off in the pool and recharge. In the afternoon, we head out on a Safari in Minneriya National Park, famous for the "Elephant Gathering," where hundreds of elephants congregate around the waterholes during the dry season. Day 07: Habarana – Dambulla – Matale – Kandy

An exceptionally varied and inspiring day awaits you. Today this is one of the best cultural and scenic drives in Sri Lanka. After breakfast, you travel to Dambulla and begin by visiting the Dambulla Cave Temple, one of the country’s most impressive sanctuaries. The journey starts with a climb up a series of rather steep steps leading to the rock face. However, the initial exertion is quickly forgotten upon seeing the magnificent cave temples, adorned with vibrant wall paintings depicting religious scenes from the life of Buddha. En route to Kandy, we stop in Matale to visit Aluvihare Rock Temple. Here, a monk introduces you to the world of meditation, temple life, and Theravada Buddhism—offering a profound, authentic insight into Sri Lanka’s spiritual culture. Afterward, we will explore a colorful Hindu temple in Matale. Sri Muthumariamman Thevasthanam also known as the Matale Hindu Temple, is a major Hindu shrine in Matale, Sri Lanka, dedicated to the goddess Mariamman. It is renowned for its striking Dravidian architecture, vibrant sculptures, and cultural importance within the island’s Tamil Hindu community.

Day 08: Kandy

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic • International Buddhist Museum • Kandy Market Hall • Kandy Lake

Today the next highlight of your trip awaits: the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, where a tooth relic of the Buddha is venerated. You will learn more about the religious significance of the relics and the history of the Sinhalese kings. Kandy - the hill capital is another “World Heritage Site”. It was the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings during the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule and finally ceded to the British in 1815 after an agreement. To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the “Dalada Maligawa” - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

Close by are the remains of the Royal Palace (“Maha Wasala”), “Palle Wasala”- where the Queens stayed-now used for the National Museum, “Meda Wasala” where other close relatives lived, Audience Hall, Natha Devala and Vishnu Devala are situated close by. The Bathing Pavilion (“Ulpenge”) is by the Lake and in the Center of the lake is the Island called “Kiri samudraya” (Milk white ocean) used by the kings as the summerhouse. Today it is the center of Buddhism, Arts, Crafts, Dancing, Music and Culture. Visitors can see these Dance & Music at the daily Cultural Performances held at several places in the city. Day 09: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Tea Plantation/Factory • Gregory Lake • Walk Around Colonial Town

After breakfast, proceed to Kandy railway station and board the 1st class A/C train to Nanu Oya which will travel through manmade tunnels, beautiful mountains & tea plantations in the hill country.

On arrival at Nanu Oya, proceed to Nuwara Eliya

Afternoon visit a Tea Plantation/Factory and later visit Gregory Lake, it is a man-made reservoir located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, Central Province, Sri Lanka. Constructed in 1873 under British Governor Sir William Gregory, it remains one of the hill country’s most popular leisure attractions, known for boating, scenic walks, and its cool high-altitude climate.

In the evening, we will walk around theNuwara Eliya Town. This Town is also known as ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park. Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (March to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the “seasons” when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity. Stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 10: Nuwara Eliya - Bandarawela

Hike in Horton Plains National Park • Idalgashinna Railway Station

Before sunrise, we set off by shuttle to the mystical Horton Plains, taking our breakfast with us. Fresh mountain air, the gentle rustling of the cloud forest, and vast grasslands accompany us on a hike (approx. 3.5 hours; easy to moderate) to two natural wonders: World’s End—an impressive cliff with an 800-meter sheer drop—and Baker’s Falls, a fairytale-like waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. In the afternoon, we continue our journey by bus to Bandarawela, then we will take a Break at Idalgashinna Railway Station. Idalgashinna has become emblematic of Sri Lanka’s highland railway heritage, frequently featured in travel photography and documentaries. It exemplifies the island’s blend of engineering achievement and natural beauty, symbolizing the enduring appeal of train travel through the central highlands. Later head towards Bandarawela, where the rest of the day is ours to enjoy at leisure.

Day 11: Bandarawela

Tea plantation Hike • Lipton’s Seat Viewpoint •Dowa Rock Temple • Bandarawela town walk

Today, you will experience the world of tea in all its beauty. A Hike of Tea Plantation approximately 7-8 km (lasting about 2 hours; easy to moderate) through the lush green plantations surrounding Bandarawela, Your guide shares insights into the lives of the Tamil tea workers and the history of the region. Afterward, a tuk-tuk takes us to Lipton’s Seat, a viewpoint offering a breathtaking panorama—the very spot where Sir Thomas Lipton once surveyed the vast expanse of "his" plantations. And later we will visit the Dowa Rock Temple, also known as Dowa Raja Maha Viharaya, is an ancient Buddhist cave temple. It is celebrated for its colossal unfinished Buddha statue carved directly into a granite rock face and for its richly decorated murals reflecting Sri Lanka’s enduring Buddhist heritage and later explore the we will go for Bandarawela Town Walk. There we will see the local market, colonial-era buildings, everyday Sri Lankan hill-country life. If we get a chance then we will meet a local family for Tea, Coffee. Day 12: Bandarawela – Tissamaharama

Train journey through the Highlands • Diyaluma Falls • Buduruwagala Temple

Our day begins with an unforgettable Train journey through the Highlands — one of the most scenic routes in the world. Passing tea plantations, wisps of mist, and small mountain villages, we experience Sri Lanka’s natural beauty from a fresh, gentle perspective. We then continue by bus to the impressive Diyaluma Falls, where the water cascades over the rocks like a silver veil. At Buduruwagala, we discover striking Rock-carved Buddhas whose serene presence is deeply moving. Your guide explains the distinctions between Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism and the folk religion of Sri Lanka. Day 13: Tissamaharama – Galle

Today we set off for an early safari in Bundala National Park before sunrise —precisely when the wildlife is most active. Bundala is renowned for its breathtaking variety of birdlife and the rare migratory birds that stop here between November and March. With a bit of luck, we may also spot wild elephants and crocodiles. After this fascinating safari, we return to the hotel for breakfast. Our route then takes us along the picturesque south coast to Galle. Together, we explore the enchanting Galle Fort, a beautifully preserved fortress built by the Dutch East India Company. Along the way, we discover fascinating details about colonial history, Indian Ocean trade routes, historic merchant houses, and the Dutch influence of the 17th century. Afterward, we continue to our beach hotel—time to settle in, take a breath, and unwind at the end of the day. Overnight stay at Hotel.
